C'est la vie

A day in the ER

Spent half of my day at the hospital emergency room with my sister. She'd hurt herself at work, and from the swelling and pain in her fingers, after heading briefly to the clinic to check it out first, the doctor recommended she head to the emergency to get it x-rayed because she thought it could possibly be broken. Luckily despite the horrible swelling, and discoloration and I must say it's crocked look.....it wasn't broken.

Dancing in the rain.............

Every summer there is this huge festival that's held just about an hour from Ottawa in Long Sault, that bring together all Khmers mainly living in Ontario, Quebec, and North Eastern United States. However, each year it seems to get bigger and bigger and literally 1000s of Khmers flock to this one event. Essentially, all it is, is a picnic, bbq, performances, dance, etc. to celebrate our culture. Now since I missed last years festival because I was in South Africa, I figured I might as well attend it this year, besides my mother had made it clear that she had her intentions of making it a family event. Unfortunately, for some odd reason this year it fell mid month, unlike the 6 prior years? So I found myself the only child in our family attending as my brother was off camping, and my sisters were in New York, and working.

Now don't worry low attendance wasn't a problem, because I'd warned everyone about the strong possibility of rain (actually thunder showers). Regardless, we all went any ways. About 15 minutes after our arrival and unloading our things, low and behold we begin to hear thunder. It's a bit cloudy........however, looks like the rain is going to hold back. The next thing we know it begins to pour like no tomorrow, with absolutely no shelter what so ever. One of my dad's friends pulls out a plastic tarp he had brought, so about 19 of us cuddle under this small tarp. So are we safehere.....nope.......the tarp begins to leak, and we are all soaked to the bone. This last for about 40 minutes, luckily I had brought a change of clothes. It didn't just rain once, but twice that day. However, the second rain fall that evening we had already made a better shelter to shield off the rain. Minus being soaked to the bone, it was actually quite fun, we all managed to laugh and smile given the situation. The last time I remember playing in the rain was when I was 5 while living in Thailand.

Facials and massages......a must

Ah the perks of having a bestfriend that works for a spa. For my birthday, yesterday I was treated to a relaxing evening at the spa before we headed for dinner, I had a nice long facial and massage. It was so relaxing that I literally was falling asleep while I was getting it done. I didn't think that I would be one of those girls that enjoyed these things.....but after yesterday I change my mind......I'll be going back for sure! We went to catch a movie also, The Lake House. As hot as Keanu Reeves is, which I kept turning to my friends throughout the movie and whispering, " he's so cute," I found myself quite disappointed in the movie. I suppose I expected more...............despite that I found the storyline to be rathering blah. I found myself figeting at times throughout the movie. I suppose overall it was alright, I' d give it a 6/10 and that's me being pretty generous. Everyone else seemed to like it, this girl in the row behind us we sniffing and crying? I didn't think it was that sad.

Class of 2006

I've always enjoyed school (I'm wack I know), but I just do, and to think that my university days are over...makes me kind of sad: ( Well at least for the time being, I do plan to do my Master's, but I think I will try the working world for a year or two, before I dip my toes into the lifestyle of a student once again.

To believe or not to believe?

Friday evening my sister and her friend's opted to check out the psychic festival that was happening in town. A friend of her's had checked out one previously the year before and from all the hype she had heard she figured, why not for the fun of it. As I simply put it you take these readings with a grain of salt, because essentially I STILL believe your life is governed by your hands, your decisions, your actions. However, I did get a pretty good laugh listening to her stories......yes....some of it was bang on. However, I suppose some of the forecast left me in laughter (not that it was unrealistic but). As to whether these readings can be validated, time can only tell.

Saturady night 21 of us (family and friends) went out to dinner to celebrate my sister and Sovie's joint bo-day party, turns out at the end of the night as we are about to leave the place, my dad discover's that there's something wrong with our van ( I knew we should have taken our other car), turns out we had to get the thing towed in the end.

It's almost 1am....the lasts guests are trickling out the door. We had a dinner party for my father's birthday today and invited some of his close friends over. My father's a simple man. At first glance he comes across extremely shy, intimidating and and at times scary to approach (or so I've been told by guys), but that's the opposite of his personality. He's extremely talkactive and vocal, you just got to know how to keep a conversation up with him (simply just talk about familylife/values, fishing, his reminising childhood days in Cambodia, or home renovation and you've got smooth sailing. He's a workoholic and on his days off.....goes absolutley crazy, when he finds himself with free time. So he occupies his weekends working on big projects (building a backyard deck, building a pond for his Koi's, this summer the focus is he's attempted to rebuild/enhance the water fall in our pond to make it bigger and better (which I simply don't see the point, as does my mother). When it comes to his projects we've learned to leave him be:)
I'm so proud of him this year especially for quitting smoking!

Camping in Gatineau Park

So as I sit here typing up this update.........I'm scatching my legs to death from all the bites I received this weekend. Couldn't have asked for better weather than what we had this weekend, for camping at Gatineau Park. Pitched our tent at Taylor lake, spent the afternoon canoeing, and lazying it up in the sun. Minus the fact that mosquitoes were everywhere (they usually are worst this early in the season), we all had a good time.
